Keyboard Shortcuts

Jelly supports Gmail-style keyboard shortcuts that let you navigate your inbox, manage conversations, and perform common actions without reaching for the mouse. If you’re already familiar with Gmail’s shortcuts, you’ll feel right at home.

Seeing All Shortcuts

Press ? at any time to open the keyboard shortcuts help dialog. This shows a quick reference of every available shortcut, grouped by category.

You’ll also notice small shortcut hints displayed on buttons throughout the interface. These badges remind you which key triggers that action.

Inbox Shortcuts

When you’re viewing your inbox (or any mailbox like Sent, All Mail, etc.), these shortcuts help you move through and act on conversations quickly.

Moving Around

  • j or down arrow - Move the cursor to the next conversation
  • k or up arrow - Move the cursor to the previous conversation
  • o or Enter - Open the focused conversation

A focused conversation is highlighted in the list. Use j and k to move the highlight up and down, then o or Enter to open it.

Selecting and Archiving

  • x or Space - Toggle the checkbox on the focused conversation
  • e - Archive the focused conversation, or archive all selected conversations if you have a selection

You can select multiple conversations with x, then press e to archive them all at once.

Other Inbox Actions

  • c - Compose a new message
  • / - Jump to the search field
  • Esc - Deselect all selected conversations
  • z - Undo the last action (when an undo option is available)

Conversation Shortcuts

When you’re viewing a single conversation, these shortcuts help you navigate between messages and take action.

  • j or n - Jump to the next message in the conversation
  • k or p - Jump to the previous message in the conversation
  • o or Enter - Expand or collapse the focused message

Taking Action

  • r - Reply to the conversation
  • c - Start a comment (internal note for your team)
  • e - Archive the conversation
  • u - Return to the inbox

Drafts

  • Esc - Discard a draft reply or comment that’s currently open

Quick Navigation with “Go to”

Press g to open the “Go to” menu, then press a second key to jump directly to a mailbox:

Keys Destination
g then i Inbox
g then s Sent
g then f Scheduled
g then a All Mail
g then d Drafts
g then b Bookmarks
g then z Snoozed
g then t Trash
g then ! Spam
g then g Scroll to top of page

Press Esc to dismiss the menu if you change your mind.

Tips

  • Shortcuts pause while you’re typing. When your cursor is in a text field, search box, or editor, keyboard shortcuts are disabled so they don’t interfere with what you’re writing. They resume as soon as you click outside the field or press Esc to leave it.
  • Use j/k to browse, then act. The fastest way to triage your inbox is to move through conversations with j and k, archiving with e or opening with o as you go.
  • Select, then act in bulk. Use x to select several conversations, then e to archive them all at once.
  • Press ? if you forget. The help dialog is always one keypress away.
